The development team at Valve is finally introducing the winter and holiday themed update for DOTA 2, called The Greeviling, and the much rumored Frostivus celebration has been canceled, replaced by a new Player versus Environment mode for all gamers.

The interesting twist is that gamers will fight Greevilings in order to get presents, but they will not directly receive them, with each rescued package given to another DOTA 2 player.

The official Valve blog reads: “Misery piled on misery! As the cold closed in, how we looked forward to Frostivus. Instead we get The Greeviling! The shops have been plundered, our gifts ripped open, our precious items scattered through the woods by a dire tide of Greevils!”

The entire update is worth reading as it is written with the mix of humor and weirdness that has become a trademark for the company.

A full list for the changes introduced in the most recent update for DOTA 2 is available on Steam, including some general bug fixes and changes to characters and powers.
