Crytek is the only company that can compete with Epic Games in the game engine department, and it is also using the 2013 edition of the Game Developers Conference to show off the capabilities of its CryEngine 3 technology.

The highlight reel presented during the show is designed to reveal 14 projects that use the engine in various ways, creating beautiful environments and interesting gameplay.

Crytek says that its new development tools are already adapted to the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the next new console from Microsoft.

Traditionally, the company has used the Crysis series in order to show off its engine, but it’s unclear whether the team will continue to work on it after the rather limited impact of the third title in the franchise.

Crytek believes that the future of the shooter is linked to free-to-play titles.
