The development team at Paradox has announced that it is working on a new expansion for Crusader Kings II called Sons of Abraham, which is designed to make religion a more important element of the experience.

The first developer diary explains why the Catholic Pope will become an important player in politics as gamers get a new way of controlling his actions via the College of Cardinals.

The studio explains that a good candidate for the position of Pope will be able to get picked by his peers to lead the church, which allows the player to grant requests like divorces, the launch of a Crusade or simply an upgrade to Piety.

Sons of Abraham will also have new mechanics for players who prefer to play as Islamic rulers and it will also introduce Judaism to the series.

Paradox will launch the expansion on November 18 alongside a huge 2.0 patch for Crusader Kings II.
