Compulsion Games has released the announcement trailer for its upcoming video game, a creepy and challenging adventure titled We Happy Few.

The trailer is extremely creepy, setting up the scene for the game’s full reveal at the upcoming PAX East next month, and shows a bit of the title’s core concept.

The action is set in a sort of retro-futuristic 1960’s England, where everyone lives in a drug-fueled state of perpetual blissful ignorance. Of course, everyone wears makeup making them look like mimes, in order to ramp up the creepiness factor.

The trailer shows that there are also dissenters among the happy members of society, those who would not succumb to their daily dose of oblivious bliss, and paints a pretty horrific picture regarding their fate.

After all, people never like it when you don’t follow the same rules they do, especially when you’re endangering the status quo.

The trailer is lovely and the concept is definitely intriguing, foreshadowing a deeply rooted evil seated behind the thin veil of happiness, but for the time being it remains to be seen what kind of dark secrets We Happy Few is harboring.

The development team behind it previously created Contrast, a highly atmospheric and mechanically interesting video game that offered a hybrid 2D/3D experience set in a beautiful noir world.
