The development team has suggested that it might be ready to talk about DiRT 4, the new entry in its venerable rally racing simulation series, by showing an image of one of the cars that has been traditionally used to promote the game via Twitter.

Members of the development team at Codemasters can be seen posing with a real-world customized rally car.

Paul Coleman, the chief game designer working on the series, added via Twitter: “Commence your speculation. #dirt.”

Considering how important the DiRT series is to Codemasters, no fans doubted that the team was already working on the fourth full installment in the franchise, but the image might mean that soon official details would be offered.

The DiRT series has evolved from the Colin McRae games and aims to offer a complex racing simulation that remains accessible to the casual gamer.

The most recent release is the spin-off Showdown.
