John Gibson, the president of Red Orchestra developer Tripwire Interactive, believes that an entire generation of first-person shooter fans was almost ruined by the negative influence of Call of Duty, which created a set of standards that discouraged innovation in the genre.

The executive tells PC Gamer that, “I’m really discouraged by the current state of multiplayer shooters. I think that, and I hate to mention names, because it sounds like ‘I’m just jealous of their success,’ but I’m really, I feel like Call of Duty has almost ruined a generation of FPS players.”

A new Call of Duty title will be launched later in 2014, offering gamers a new experience in the Modern Warfare continuity.

Tripwire Interactive focuses on the creation of realism-infused military shooters, like Red Orchestra 2.
