Activision has updated the number of subscribers to its Call of Duty Elite online service, confirming that over 12 million people are currently registered, while 2.3 million of them have a premium membership.

Call of Duty Elite was released as a complementary online service designed to augment the experience from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 last year.

Since then, the service has been updated by Activision’s Beachhead studio and those who got premium subscriptions received all sorts of new content for Modern Warfare 3 earlier than others and completely free.

Now, Activision has confirmed that Elite has over 12 million registered users and that over 2.3 million of them have premium subscriptions, meaning they pay $49.99/€49.99 per year to access all of the DLC for Modern Warfare 3 and lots of extra goodies.

Given this popularity, you can expect many new features to be released for the online service in the near future, culminating with the 2.0 update that’s going to be launched alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 this November.
