The game looks truly amazing, but might not actually run in 4K on most rigs

Developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision have released eight new screenshots from the upcoming military first-person shooter Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, looking stunning in 4K resolution.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is one of the games prominently featured at this year's edition of Gamescom, taking place in Cologne, Germany, and for a pretty good reason, too: it's looking like the most exciting and visually impressive Call of Duty game so far.

The futuristic setting, the emphasis on what seems to be a great, challenging story, and the addition of a ton of exciting new gadgets and gameplay mechanics to the established recipe seem to bring a breath of fresh air to the long-standing military shooter franchise, and Advanced Warfare will no doubt be one of the year's top-sellers.

The game takes place in 2054 and follows the morally questionable rise to power of a strong private military corporation, following a global terrorist attack that destroys several nuclear reactors in developed countries all around the globe.

Players will be cast in the role of a slightly cybernetically-enhanced soldier working for the corporation, who gets to witness firsthand the shady dealings of the company and its clandestine operations meant to change the balance of power in the world.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is coming out on November 4, 2014, headed to the Windows PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
