Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford has confirmed that work on a Borderlands 3 hasn’t even begun, as all of the studio’s resources are now focused on DLC for Borderlands 2 and on other projects like Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Borderlands 2 was released last month and Gearbox has already confirmed quite a lot of downloadable content for the game, some coming free to those who pre-order the game, like the Mechromancer class, while other add-ons are included in the Season Pass.

Now, after one of the game’s writers mentioned Borderlands 3, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has released a statement concerning the supposed sequel, emphasizing that, while his staff is thinking about new projects, work isn’t underway on a new game.

"Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2. It's fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, Aliens, etc. The only Borderlands related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2."

Gearbox definitely has its plate full right now, as the studio is busy developing the actual DLC for Borderlands 2, as well as other games, like Aliens: Colonial Marines or Brothers in Arms: Furious 4.
