Steam looks to be poised to rob your attention this weekend, offering not one but two great games for you to delve into at your leisure, in the form of Borderlands 2 and Dishonored.

Valve is offering both Gearbox's award-winning science fiction first-person shooter with role-playing elements, Borderlands 2, as well as Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks' stealth adventure video game Dishonored, completely free to enjoy over the duration of this weekend.

Borderlands 2 sends you to a distant planet, where you will take down an evil megalomaniac – but somewhat charming and completely bonkers – dictator, shooting stuff up and generally having a blast with what is probably the biggest gun loot system in video games, with tons of different configurations allowing you to burn, corrode and electrocute your enemies.

Dishonored sends you on a quest for revenge, putting you in the shoes of Corvo Attano, one of the Empress of the Isles' guards, framed for her murder. Featuring quality voiceover from tons of renowned actors, the first-person action adventure game tasks you with a ton of stealthy assassination missions, set in a dystopian, gothic-industrial city.

Some people might read that as steampunk, and they might be right.

The games are available from now up until 1PM PT / 4PM ET / 9PM UK time on Sunday, August 24, after which point you will have to pay to continue the stabbing and looting. Which is not as bad as it sounds, as both games are featured at a pretty hefty discount.
