Gearbox experimented until it found the sweet spot, making orange drops feel satisfying but still challenging

Gearbox Software has decided to update the legendary drop rate in Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel across all platforms.

The decision comes after a month of testing, as the official announcement points out, which led to the developer dramatically increasing the chance to get a legendary drop. Compared to the original, the two follow-ups, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, dropped considerably fewer legendary items.

This meant that the most desirable pieces of loot, the ones dedicated players required in order to make the best out of their build, could be pretty elusive. It also meant that players had to farm bosses over and over in order to find the perfect gear, leading to some heavy grinding.

Although loot-based games are no strangers to grinding, as the millions of players enjoying Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo 3 can attest, having such frustrating drop rates ends up negatively impacting the experience of those involved.

Wanting to provide its fanbase with a more enjoyable and satisfying experience, Gearbox has decided to increase the drop rate for legendary items by a factor of three. Guns, grenades, and shields can have a dramatic impact on the way you approach the game, and the devs want players to be able to choose from the best items available in the games.

The change has been applied automatically through a hotfix, so if you're in a farming mood, this might be the very best time to load up either Borderlands 2 or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
