Borderlands 2 has shipped over 5 million units since its launch in September, with publisher Take-Two Interactive confirming that it’s on track to become one of the most successful titles ever released under its 2K Games label.

Borderlands 2 has been awaited by millions of fans from all around the world and developer Gearbox Software hyped it up in all sorts of ways before and after its launch back in September for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Now, after selling over 1.8 million copies in the U.S. in its first two weeks of availability, Take-Two Interactive confirmed that more than 5 million copies had been shipped all around the world.

According to the publisher, the title is set to become one of the most successful releases that ever came out under its 2K Games label.

“Take-Two's second quarter revenue and earnings exceeded our outlook, driven by the breakout success of 2K's Borderlands 2 and robust demand for our catalog and digitally delivered offerings,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, via Joystiq.

Considering Borderlands 2 will receive plenty of DLC in the following months, you can expect the game to sell even more copies.
