The level cap for Borderlands 2, which is currently at 50, will be increased early next year, according to an official representative of developer Gearbox Software, who mentioned this planned update on Twitter.

Borderlands 2 came out in September and has since delighted millions of first-person shooter fans with its addictive gameplay and the great emphasis on loot.

Now, after lots of people finished the game multiple times and reached the level cap of 50, developer Gearbox Software has confirmed that the level cap will be increased in early 2013.

According to Adam Fletcher, the studio's PR & Marketing director, no other details are known, but he did say on Twitter that a more official announcement would be made soon.

Given this lack of an actual date, it seems that the level increase won't be included in the next big expansion for Borderlands 2, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, which arrives on January 15.
