The development team at Blizzard seems to already have a series of plans linked to the Starcraft universe which will see it keep its relevance for gamers even after the upcoming Legacy of the Void installment is launched later in the year.

According to IGN, an official statement from the company explains that "We hope to explore some other aspects of the universe, but the storyline that was setup in StarCraft I and continued in StarCraft II will resolve in Legacy of the Void. All of those main characters will reach a nice satisfying conclusion."

This probably means that the likes of Jim Raynor, Sarah Kerigan and Artanis will get to finish their character arcs and the major battle that has been teased for the first two Starcraft 2 installments will take place and will be won.

Legacy of the Void is set to get a full multiplayer beta on March 31, which will introduce a range of new units that gamers can use and some tweaks to the core game mechanics.

Blizzard has already disclosed that the single-player campaign will ask the player to try and secure alliances with other Protoss forces in order to stop the looming threat and will have more role-playing elements than before.
