Cliff Bleszinski, one of the developers who made Gears of War a hit, says that a direct correlation exists between the success of a video game and the amount of viral videos that the community can create using its core mechanics.

The designer uses Just Cause 2 as an example, talking about a 50 limo race that a group of players organized and then showed to the community.

In an interview with Engadget, Bleszinski says, “Bugs notwithstanding, there’s a direct correlation between how great your game is and how many viral videos it can make. Honestly, whoever embraces that for this next generation of games on console is going to win.”

Avalanche Studios, the developer of Just Cause, is widely believed to be working on a new title in the series linked to the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox 720 from Microsoft.
