The team tried to test new ideas and features as long as they had the resources

Greg Zeschuk, one of the two doctors who created developer BioWare, says that his company had full control over all design decisions after it was acquired by Electronic Arts, and was able to try out a number of ideas that would have never existed while it was still independent.

He is quoted by VG247 saying that “The best analogy I use, in a positive way, is EA gives you enough rope to hang yourself.”

The developer adds, “It was really interesting because we really made all the choices we wanted to make ourselves; these are all things we wanted to try.”

Zeschuk says that BioWare’s freedom includes multiplayer, which was added to Mass Effect, mobile and casual spin-offs like Dragon Age: Legend and micro-transactions, as those seen in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

BioWare is currently working on a new Mass Effect title and one secret project.
