Avalanche, the creator of the Just Cause series, believes that big budget video games will see a decline in the coming year, without disappearing completely, as more gamers move towards smaller innovative titles that use new business models.

Christofer Sundberg, one of the founders of the company, tells Gamasutra that, “We just want to make better games.”

He goes on to discuss the exact nature of AAA video games, whether the quality or the budget is the main feature of one and how various companies are approaching the concept.

Stefan Ljungqvist, the creative director, adds, “I don't think big-budget games are going away. There's going to be less of them. But that's a good thing, because maybe we don't need forty first-person shooters.”

The Just Cause series has managed to get a solid fan base with its impressive mix of player freedom, physics-driven gameplay and huge world.

Rumors suggest that Avalanche is working on the third core game in the franchise, which will probably be launched on the next generation of home consoles.
