DICE doesn't want to do a sloppy job when adding women to multiplayer

Battlefield's multiplayer mode will feature female characters at some point in time, although developer DICE wants to make sure that they'll be properly represented in the game, instead of just a cheap presence.

Call of Duty: Ghosts impressed earlier this year when it confirmed that in its multiplayer mode players can control female characters, not just men.

Battlefield 4 sticks with an all-male cast, however, but Executive Producer Patrick Back has confirmed that there are plans to introduce female characters in a future game.

"Yes, but we don't know when we can do that," he told OXM. "We have been talking about it quite a lot. We've been looking at how much it's worth, compared to how much we'd have to sacrifice."

According to Bach, adding female characters is complicated because of multiple things, from making character models, to new voice-over work, as there are "hundreds of thousands of lines that would need to be duplicated."

Battlefield 4 is out this month for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and in November for PS4 and Xbox One.
