A technical analysis of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions of Battlefield 4 has confirmed that the game doesn't run at a full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution on either of the next-gen consoles, as it's capable of 900p on the PS4 and 720p on the Xbox One.

Battlefield 4 is eagerly awaited by millions of fans from around the world, and the game is currently being rolled out this week on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms. Next month, it will debut for the PS4 and Xbox One next-gen console.

The team at Digital Foundry has managed to get its hands on preview builds of the PS4 and Xbox One editions and found some rather shocking technical details, particularly when it comes to the actual resolution of the game.

On the Xbox One, Battlefield 4 runs at 720p (1280x720), while on the PS4 it's capable of a bigger 900p (1600x900) resolution.

What's more, footage captured by the website also shows that there is a distinct difference in quality between the PS4 and Xbox One, with Sony's console producing the better result.

As of yet, DICE hasn't commented on the analysis.
