The Writers Guild of America acknowledges that writing is as important for movies as it is for video games and announces that it has nominated five titles for the award that it plans to hand out on February 1 in ceremonies taking place in New York and LA.

The official site of the organization states that the nominees are:

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – with story from Darby McDevitt, Mustapha Mahrach, Jean Guesdon; lead scriptwriter Darby McDevitt; scriptwriter Jill Murray; AI scriptwriter Nicholas Grimwood; scriptwriter Singapore Mark Llabres Hill Batman: Arkham Origins – with story from narrative director Dooma Wendschuh; writer & senior narrative designer Ryan Galletta; writer Corey May God of War: Ascension – story by Marianne Krawcyzk; additional writing Ariel Lawrence The Last of Us – written by Neil Druckmann Lost Planet 3 – created by head writer Richard Gaubert; writers Orion Walker, Matt Sophos

Assassin’s Creed; Liberation took home the Writers Guild of America awards in 2013.

The organization only nominates those who are members and that means that it does not necessarily reward the overall best writing seen in games during the previous year.
