Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune is involved in many projects as of late, as apart from the Kickstarted Mighty No. 9 and the recently launched Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, his company is also working on a new Nintendo 3DS exclusive side-scrolling shooter titled Azure Striker Gunvolt.

The eShop-only action platformer has initially been announced for Japan only, but it now seems likely that it will also make its way to the west. A newly-launched English language website reveals a few background information on the characters and setting, but the giveaway is the "ESRB rating pending" statement.

It suggests that a localization of the game is in the works and that the game has already been submitted to be reviewed by the North American ratings board.

The upcoming game is being developed by Comcept, Inafune's company, along with Inti Creates, an indie developer made out of Capcom veterans who are also involved with Mighty No. 9.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is a side-scrolling shooter that is inspired by Inafune's drive to evolve the 2D platformer genre, in which the main character uses various electricity-based attacks and abilities.

The game was initially unveiled during this year's BitSummit convention in Kyoto, last month, when the first gameplay trailer for Azure Striker Gunvolt was released, along with a short introduction from Keiji Inafune himself.
