Trent Oster, the leader of developer Beamdog, has clarified that video game publisher Atari is to blame for the withdrawal of the Enhanced Edition for Baldur’s Gate from all official stores.

The executive tells Game Informer that, “At the request of Atari legal we removed the game from sale on Beamdog and the App stores.”

He adds, “We’re trying to remedy the situation and I’m hopeful we can come to an arrangement.”

Development on an Enhanced Edition for Baldur’s Gate II and its own expansion are at the moment on hold, pending an agreement between Beamdog and Atari.

The game was supposed to be launched towards the end of summer.

It’s unclear why Atari decided to shut down sales for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition close to one year after the game was first released.
