John Riccitiello, the former chief executive officer of Electronic Arts, says that Angry Birds is not an innovative brand and that the Rovio game needs more than a Star Wars license to evolve in the coming years.
Polygon quotes the executive as stating during the Gaming Insiders Summit that, “Adding a Star Wars brand is not an innovation.”
He adds, “they haven’t really mastered the microtransaction model. I wish they had put as much innovation and energy into the code as went into all the other stuff.”
The ex-leader of EA believes that Rovio aimed to act like Disney before it was able to do so.
The Angry Birds brand will be expanded with Go, a new kart racer that’s set to be launched in early December and will use toys in a manner similar to Skylanders and Disney Infinity.
The franchise is a big seller on both mobile devices and home consoles.
