Full video game industry revenue, linked to home consoles, the PC, mobile device and the web will grow from 2 billion dollars (1.60 billion Euro) during 2011 to more than 70 billion dollars (56.04 billion Euro) in 2017, with most of the increase linked to PC gaming and mobiles.

David Cole, who is an analyst with DFC Intelligence, stated, “Digital distribution, already widely accepted among core gamers globally, is clearly broadening access to products and driving much of the industry growth.”

“The bottom line, is core gamers spend money on products they like and right now the game offerings on sites like Facebook are simply not appealing to that demographics,” he concluded.

The analysis firm says that males with ages between 12 and 30 will drive the growth and says that PC only franchises like Diablo III, League of Legends and Minecraft have the potential to push up revenue on the PC which might reach 66 percent of the projected 2017 sum.

Home consoles will contribute with 36% while mobile games will add another 25%.
