The game will share a universe but not a story or characters

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an unusual game because it uses the same universe as the core titles from Frictional Games but tells an entirely new story, with a very different cast of characters. However, one of the leading developers working on the game says they aim for as many frights as the initial titles in the series.

Dan Pinchbeck, the creative director working on the game at thechineseroom, has told Gamasutra that, “With this new game, we want to create a world that is so rich and dramatic and beautiful that the player is constantly torn between wanting to go around the corner to see what’s there and not wanting to go around the corner because they’re frightened of what’s there.”

The developer says that they are not just trying to create superficial scares, but that they are actually working on horror elements that should bother players long after they finished their Amnesia experience.

A Machine for Pigs should be out during the fall on the PC, Linux and Mac.
