It’s the first full week of the new year and 2012 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years for video game releases in recent memory, a fact that we are ready to celebrate by launching a new series of articles, under the tag Incoming 2012, which will look at the upcoming releases and at why they matter to players and the industry.

On December 31 of 2011, just before the end of 2011, we managed to post a review of the Nintendo 3DS version of the new Sonic Generations, a SEGA published game that aims to mix the old school gameplay of the series with some innovative touches and the move towards three dimensional gameplay.

We also have a full Softpedia review for Grand Theft Auto III played on a Asus Transformer tablet.

We also have a Weekend Reading piece which looks forward at what I want 2012 to deliver in terms of video games and nutritious pills and an EndWeekGame article that details our gaming habits for the weekend.

And, as always, we deliver a review of the news of the week.

On Monday we were still a little groggy after the extended parties and after parties of the New Year so actual content had to wait for one more day.

On Thursday an analyst has predicted that Microsoft is ready to announce a follow-up to the Xbox 360 at the E3 2012 event, with full hardware specs on show, while companies and gamers both got to see which games were the most pirated during 2011.

Wednesday DICE talked about a possible equipment overhaul for Battlefield 3 while BioWare banned a number of Star Wars: The Old Republic players because of their loot based exploits.

Thursday Microsoft announced that it was rebooting its Flight simulation as a free-to-play products while Irrational Games’ Ken Levine talked about how sexiness influenced the design of Elizabeth in BioShock Infinite.

On Friday Firaxis revealed it was working on a new XCOM: Enemy Unknown strategy game while the developers at BioWare announced that the infamous dancing exploit for The Old Republic would be eliminated that very day.
