Palmer Luckey criticizes all games that go with 30fps framerate

Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus, the virtual reality firm behind the Rift headset, believes that games that run at a 30fps framerate are a failure, not some artistic experiences.

Oculus has gained more and more high-profile employees recently, after the Facebook acquisition, and the company's vision of Virtual Reality is certain to affect the gaming industry overall.

Now, while talking with LinusTechTips on YouTube, founder Palmer Luckey has revealed that he views 30fps games as failures, not as artistic decisions, not just in terms of virtual reality potential but also for traditional gaming.

"VR is going to need much higher frame rates than consoles, although even for consoles or traditional PC games, I don’t think 30fps is smart," Luckey mentioned. "It’s not a good artistic decision, it’s a failure."

The performance debate has been quite heated in recent months, as more and more games are revealing compromises about resolution, framerate, or both, on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Sony's PS4, so far, has been proven to get better-performing games, while Microsoft is making changes to let developers access more GPU power.

Even so, other high-profile upcoming games, like The Division or The Order: 1886 are targeting 30fps on the two consoles for different reasons.
