Phantasmat: Reign of Shadows is a hidden object adventure game in which you have to deal with supernatural beings and keep them at bay, while also trying to rescue your sister from danger. The series should be quite familiar to those who are fans of the genre, and the quality level is quite similar to previous titles a well. Overall, the gameplay is more or less the same, but the puzzles and the riddles are different.

As for the story, it all starts when the main character’s father passes away, which is why you have to go to your sister and give her the news. Naturally, something goes wrong at the resort where she is staying, because dangerous shadows start to attack people and cause havoc. Thankfully, you are close enough to lend a hand, especially since you have experience.

When it comes to the puzzles, most of them are much more original than in your average hidden object game, although there are plenty of cliches as well. Thankfully, at least you get to explore interesting environments and tackle new kinds of situations, not to mention the fact that there are ghosts you have to defeat. The hidden object scenes can be tricky as well, depending on how much experience you have with them.

As for the graphics, the technology used is the same, but there are quite a few interesting landscapes to admire along the way. Even the cutscenes are detailed and intriguing, in spite of the fact that the animations are not much to look at. Moreover, the soundtrack goes nicely with the action unfolding around you, and so do the various sound effects that keep you company.

In the end, Phantasmat: Reign of Shadows is a very enjoyable adventure game, at least if you are OK with the simple puzzles and linear gameplay.
